Microsoft D365 BC Wave 1 Release 2022

Business Central has been making headlines since its launch in April 2021. It has already set a successful track record and made a big splash this year with the limitless functionalities it offers, and it continues to simplify user experiences by upgrading, developing, and introducing new features as suggested by users from across the world.

Microsoft has published its release plans for the next cloud update wave across Dynamics 365. The 2022 Release Wave 1 will span from April 2022 to September 2022, commencing with regional deployments from the 2nd of April 2022. Some features will also be available starting February for early access.

Release Plans

Release plans enable customers and partners to learn about the new capabilities that Microsoft would be rolling out across Dynamics 365 modules in the upcoming cycle (April and September 2022).

This tactical document is designed to capture the vision for each product and to track the timeline for the release of these new features. These timelines are subject to change and may be introduced earlier for a public preview.

All the features listed in this blog are categorized into distinct fields by Microsoft. The glossary for the same is mentioned below:

1. Hybrid Work Models

  • Users, automatically: These features include changes to the user experience and are enabled automatically.
  • Admins, makers, marketers, or analysts, automatically: These features are meant to be used by administrators, makers, marketers, or business analysts and are enabled automatically.
  • Users by admins, makers, or analysts: These features must be enabled or configured by the administrators, makers, or business analysts to be available for their users.

2. In the General availability column, the feature would be delivered within the month listed. The delivery date can be any day within that month. Released features show the full date, including the date of the release.

This checkmark (✔️)  indicates features that have been released for public preview and early access.

In 2022 release wave 1, Microsoft has invested in a stronger reporting story, including better integration with Excel. It has also focussed on improving the support for collaborative business processes in Teams to enable the user to bring Business Central pages into a Teams channel.
