March 26th, 2025 Intech SystemIntech Systems AI

What if we told you about an artificial intelligence system that thinks and adapts like a human? Just as humans adjust their actions based on the situation, what if AI could do the same? Would that impress you? If the answer is a resounding yes, then welcome to the world of Agentic AI.

As we explored a vast array of research, we discovered that the simplest definition of Agentic AI can be summed up as: A genius at work.A genius contributes his brainpower for creating revolutionary innovations. The Same goes for Agentic AI models. They are geniuses at work only with the brainpower of Artificial Intelligence.

AI agents use the power of artificial intelligence to automate your day-to-day tasks like handling your to-do list, managing your meeting notes, responding to emails, and getting your stuff done in an instant. AI agents operate with autonomy, adaptability, and goal-directed behavior, much like a human agent. Unlike traditional AI models that rely on predefined rules or static responses, Agentic AI can analyze situations, make decisions, and adjust its actions dynamically based on changing circumstances. Agentic AI is increasingly being used in healthcare, customer service, and education to increase user satisfaction and skyrocket productivity.

In this article, we will crack the code of agentic AI by discussing its core functionalities, benefits, challenges, applications, and so forth. Let’s get into it:

What is Agentic AI?

“AI models that don’t need human guidance.”

While earlier AI models had limited power to interact with users, AI agents have no such limitations. AI agents can act as a guardian for the elderly, or as a travel agent to plan your next visit overseas or detect real-time inventory fluctuations in your manufacturing business.

Most of us have been actively using Generative AI to write blogs, respond to emails, conduct research, or generate images or videos. GenAI creates outputs based on patterns in training data, so it does the work for you, but it does not act independently beyond that. However, AI Agents act independently, learn continuously, and adapt to not only provide the desired outputs, but do so much more. Agentic AI leverages the power of NLP and Machine Learning capabilities to create content, meet sales targets, elevate customer satisfaction, and boost efficiency in the supply chain. With the help of these programming models, workflow complexities can be simplified.

The programming languages that are used to make the AI agents learn, communicate, and reason effectively are Lisp, Prolog, JavaScript, Haskell, Scala, and frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow flow, and scikit-learn. Microsoft AI Agents are built using a combination of Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Services, Microsoft Copilot Studio, Power Automate, and AI Builder.

How Does Agentic AI Work?

AI models use the following five-step process to communicate with the user:

Gather Information:

AI agents sift through all available data sources, including emails, spreadsheets, sensors, CRM systems, ERP platforms, cloud storage, databases, APIs, and more to gather relevant information to generate insights. Now, based on the company/user that is using the software, the AI agent identifies key areas for improvement, highlighting critical insights and necessary adjustments so that the company can meet its goals, whether it is doubling its productivity and income or boosting customer service and loyalty.

Store Information in a Knowledge Base:

Once it has collected all the relevant information,  it stores the data in a knowledge-base, which includes structured data, unstructured data, and pre-trained models. Later, it analyzes the data and generates outputs.

Process Information Using LLMs:

AI Agents leverage LLMs (Large Language Models) to analyze the information, and then create specific tasks. Decision-making is done via rule-based systems, machine learning models, or reinforcement learning. This includes analyzing data, recognizing patterns, and predicting consequences.

Action:

Once they have detected and processed the information, it is time to execute the tasks.  This could involve sending text responses, moving robotic parts, or triggering automated processes. They connect via APIs to the company’s legacy or external systems, ensuring seamless integration.

Continuous Learning & Adaptation through Machine Learning Capabilities:

Once AI agents have completed their tasks, they incorporate feedback to continuously improve. They improve their responses by evaluating company feedback and past interactions, resulting in increased accuracy and relevance. They use machine learning to adjust over time, improving client interactions and driving higher customer loyalty.

Key Characteristics of Agentic AI

Autonomy: They make decisions based on the insights generated from your databases. They don’t need constant human intervention to make informed decisions.

Adaptability: They have the power to change their interactions and make them smoother based on past interactions and feedback.

Goal Orientation: AI agents complete their tasks with an accuracy of about 90 %, so you can use them for any course of action.

Reasoning: AI agents can successfully detect patterns and analyze data to make sure that each insight is decoded properly.

Planning and Execution: Agentic AI can  help you to solve complex business problems by breaking them down into small steps, and then provide you with a plan of action.

Key Benefits of Agentic AI

Autonomous Decision-Making: Agentic AI can make complicated decisions on its own, eliminating the need for ongoing human supervision and enabling simpler, quicker actions.

Operational Efficiency: Agentic AI improves business productivity by automating routine activities and improving workflows, which leads to cost savings and increased productivity.

Improved User Experience: Agentic AI improves user satisfaction and engagement by predicting requirements and delivering personalized solutions.

AI agents automate repetitive tasks and mundane administrative work, freeing up the employees to focus on high-value work, which boosts overall efficiency.

Now that you have a working understanding of how Agentic AI works, let us see now look at how agentic AI is being used in various industries to skyrocket efficiency and reimagine possibilities:

Real-World Applications of Agentic AI to Drive Impact

MIT has launched its first AI agents and it is known as the ChenCrow.  This AI agent is being used to extract information and give insights into new drug discovery, synthesis of organic compounds, and more.

Microsoft has developed many AI agents across various industries, such as healthcare, robotics, insurance, IT operations, supply chain management, customer service, and more.

Professional Services:

Humans are forgetful. We say that we remember something, but when it comes to a showdown, we go completely blank. This makes us unreliable. The problem gets mitigated when AI agents come into play.

Let’s say that your manager has requested you to find information about a client from 1993. You might feel shivers down your spine when you think about rummaging through old Excel sheets or paperwork. You need to sift through a number of databases to find the exact information.

When AI agents are in action, they make the task quick. We are talking just a few minutes. The agent searches through the entire database, goes through emails, spreadsheets, invoices, and CRM to find the information you need. Agentic AI makes your life easier. Whether you are searching for HR policies, sales invoices, or marketing emails, Agentic AI is your knight in shining armour.

Tools like Chatbots and virtual assistants respond immediately to client inquiries, while AI-powered analytics provide useful insights for decision-making and strategy development. These improvements enable businesses to cut operational expenses and develop new service offerings.

Manufacturing:

AI agents are increasingly being used in manufacturing to automate workflows, identify lags in the supply chain, manage inventory, schedule predictive maintenance, and enhance quality control.

In addition, Agentic AI systems in manufacturing use a feature known as smart manufacturing. Each product in the inventory, whether a raw material or a finished good, is attached with a sensor. The sensor detects if the product is faulty or it has suffered wear and tear during transport. If so, it is removed successfully or sent back to the plant for repair.

This minimizes downtime and ensures that the customer doesn’t get a faulty product, thereby increasing customer satisfaction and loyalty. What’s more, your customer service teams can catch a breather.

Pharma and Healthcare:

In the pharmaceutical industry, AI accelerates drug discovery and clinical trials, while in healthcare, it improves patient care through predictive analytics and personalized treatment plans. These applications increase efficiency and outcomes in both industries.

AI in pharmaceuticals also helps with regulatory compliance by automating documentation and assuring conformity to industry norms. In healthcare, AI-powered virtual assistants help telemedicine by offering quick medical advice and allowing for distant consultations. These innovations contribute to more efficient operations and better patient outcomes in both areas.

What are the Challenges Associated with Agentic AI?

  • Though these AI agents have great power in execution, if the right team is not selected or the conditions of the AI agents are not calibrated, the system can show false triggers and deflect away from the company’s vision and mission.
  • AI systems still lack company values and contextual information. These are preprogrammed software, they need to be fed smart information (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, timebound) to succeed. In addition, the managers need to adjust the customer information and feedback loops so that the system can learn about the company performance.
  • When a new employee joins, they need to be supervised by their seniors to understand the working hierarchy of the company. The same goes with AI agents. They need to be fed real-world information about the company so that they learn about the company and make well-defined decisions. The developers call this scaffolding. When AI agents are supervised by the managers of the company in the warrior aspects of decision making, they can work as humans.

2025 is the year of Agentic AI. We believe that AI agents will play a pivotal role in transforming various business areas across industries. As this AI model continues to grow, we will witness more and more companies integrating this AI model into their operations so that they drive growth and stay ahead of their competitors in this ever-changing technological landscape.
