A software or system that can independently carry out activities on behalf of a user or another system by planning its workflow and making use of the resources at its disposal is known as an AI agent. Beyond natural language processing, AI agents may perform a wide range of tasks, such as making decisions, solving problems, interacting with the outside world, and carrying out activities.
According to a recent survey on business trends, nearly 9 out of 10 businesses hope to use AI to automate their processes, but until recently, AI has been a commodity that few SMBs could afford. However, with the introduction of AI agents in Dynamics 365 Business Central, all businesses, regardless of their size, will be able to use these intuitive AI tools to get more done with less.
Microsoft has recently introduced their first innovative agent, the Sales Order Agent. This out-of-the-box agent can automates the entire process of extracting sales quotes and orders from customer communications.
The Sales Order Agent in Business Central will carry out the following steps automatically:
Receive Sales Requests: The agent will monitor a shared company mailbox for incoming customer emails that contain item requests.
Identify the Customer: It will identify the customer from the list of registered accounts in Business Central.
Draft Sales Quote: The agent will draft a sales quote based on the items requested in the email.
Here manual intervention for quote modification and approval may come if we want. That we can configure.
Verify Item Availability: The agent will verify stock availability and adjust the quote accordingly.
Send for Approval: The drafted quote will be forwarded to the customer for approval.
Sales Order Conversion: Once the customer confirms the quote, the agent will convert it into a sales order and send the confirmation to the customer.
Here again if we need control of releasing sales order and approval then we can configure to have manual intervention.
The agent will have a simple configuration experience, where you can define the agent’s name, the channel for receiving requests for sales quotes and orders (shared company email), and select the steps you want to include or exclude in the process of taking orders from the customers
The agent’s actions are visible in the Copilot pane of Business Central, where users can review any steps taken, such as navigating pages, creating records, and making modifications. The agent’s actions will be identified by its unique user ID, just like any other user in Business Central.
Users can review, adjust, or even discard the agent’s actions (e.g., modifying a quote or sales order) before proceeding with the task. You can also approve or reject the changes suggested by the agent.

This innovative feature will be available in Public Preview for the US region starting February 2025 and will become generally available in June 2025.
